Peter Jokinen, Head Coach and Chairperson of the nonprofit NWVBC, has been named the recipient of the Badger Region Impact Award and is a standout nominee for Club Coach of the Year. Fueled by a passion for volleyball and a deep commitment to youth development, Peter founded NWVBC to bring competitive volleyball opportunities to a region where none previously existed.
After years of driving his daughter 1.5 hours to play club volleyball, Peter saw a need and filled it—personally funding the club’s launch to eliminate financial barriers for local athletes. He recruited eight players from five high schools and built a program focused on fun, growth, and teamwork.
Peter's creativity brought the season to life with themed practices, guest coaches from collegiate programs, and a scrimmage with the NJCAA’s Gogebic Community College team. His leadership off the court was just as impactful, organizing mentorship nights for middle schoolers and expanding NWVBC to include 14U, 15U, and additional 16U teams for the next season.
Under his guidance, the 16U team competed in six tournaments across Minnesota and Wisconsin, culminating in a Gold Medal bracket championship in their final event—despite being down a player.
Peter’s influence reaches beyond volleyball strategy. He instills leadership, confidence, and accountability, creating a culture of respect and perseverance. His calm, supportive coaching style allows players to thrive, both on and off the court.
Through his volunteer efforts, Peter has built a sustainable, inclusive, and competitive club that continues to grow and inspire. His vision has transformed volleyball in the region and opened doors for young athletes for years to come. Congrats, Coach!
